Processing Speed is like a lot of things — It’s INDIVIDUAL
Things are not always what they appear — if you’re focusing on one area rather than the HOLISTIC WHOLE.
I can roughly do all the things INDIVIDUALLY that this SOCIETY wants me to do —
But I can’t do THE STANDARD WHOLE— EVERYBODY SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THAT — at the same level —
Even if my “THINKING” may sometimes be “ADVANCED.”
That “Advanced Thinking” is my greatest strength — so as hard as it has been — I haven’t been willing to give it up.
To make things more challenging — there’s often a lot of FATIGUE that comes with Neuro-Diversity —
You’re often BURNING THE CANDLE AT BOTH ENDS — even though it doesn’t look like it.
I’ve made a CONSCIOUS DECISION to let go of a lot perfectionism — to get out some ideas I felt were not being sufficiently addressed and were CRITICAL.
Further, “Orchid” is one part of my life — it’s not the whole thing.
Balancing the legitimate needs of other people and my own legitimate needs is hard to do —
If I don’t recognize my differences,
Neither does anyone else.
& Other people have their own Differences.
- As critical as I have been of the mental health profession —
-
- It was my psychiatrist of many years who recognized early on that there was something different in my processing — it was slower.
- It wasn’t clear what that was — but the first step is IDENTIFYING some of these processing issues.

Florence Welch has Dyslexia. To me, this is a BRILLIANT musical and visual presentation of what it feels like to have a Processing issue.

What is Twice Exceptional
I think its important to realize how many TWICE EXCEPTIONAL people are out there — and many of them started with a “Gifted ” label in school and as an Adult got that LATE DIAGNOSIS.
Further, many more never got a recognition of their talents — just their challenges.
These kids and adults are in a WORLD of HURT and our Society is often pouring SALT in the WOUND.

Finally, most of the adults who are Homeless and Incarcerated do have a lot to offer this Society —
- But if we try to ram them into that Neuro-Typical Mold — we’ll never see it.
